“Great classic hotel in a great location but in need of a little extra maintenance and pest control”
Good price compared to staying in the busy part of Macau and rooms relatively spacious. Location is quiet and at night you can hear the waves which adds to the remote relaxed feeling. Staff helpful and friendly, in particular on the restaurant for breakfast, but everyone we came across were really good so no complaints there. The beds seem to have been replaced in recent years and are firm and supportive but still good for a comfortable night’s sleep. However, the room we stayed in was starting to show its age, with a cracked window pane temporarily fixed with tape, badly done repairs to plasterwork in the corners of the walls being traps for dust, and some items like the bedside lamp being poorly maintained (the cable was frayed and had exposed wire but after reporting this to the staff, it was fixed and returned within 15 mins fully working and made safe). Most of the lightbulbs in the room were also white bright light which added to the unwelcoming cold feel to the room when we arrived in the evening - I would really recommend the hotel replace the light bulbs with more conventional off white bulbs that give a more softer feel or implement switchable colour temperature bulbs. In the daytime, the room feels fresher and much more pleasant, in addition the balcony is really nice to sit out and have a coffee. The bathroom is also very good with a very strong shower and deep large bathtub. The final issue was we found the presence of cockroaches. First there was one crawling around outside our room in the corridor, and then we saw another on the premises the next morning. These were the only two we saw so it’s not like it’s a major issue, but still not something you look forward to seeing in the place you’re sleeping in. Would be good if the management could try to get to the source of this infestation and try to eradicate it - I can only imagine on the summer it would even worse if left untreated. So in summary, I would recommend it, but hope the management can address the maintenance of the rooms, in particular replace the light bulbs and definitely sort out the minir presence of cockroaches as much as possible.
