“Not really good staycation experience”
I stayed at Mercure Alam Sutera and honestly the stay was a mix of good intentions and extremely avoidable disappointments. Positive Points: The staff are genuinely friendly, can’t complain about their attitude. Free breakfast for kids under 12, which is great for families. Weekend kids activities are a nice touch. The pool is clean, well-maintained, and enjoyable. Free bicycle rentals for guests — good idea, poorly executed (more on that later). Negative Points (the real experience): I specifically requested a non-smoking room, yet was given a smoking room. Yes, I booked last-minute, but that’s no excuse. They tried to fix it with an air purifier, but the cigarette odor and musty smell were still awful. TV remote in Room 216 barely worked — felt like the batteries were dying. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. Reception phone was almost impossible to reach. I called multiple times; it rang forever, and no one bothered to pick up. There was no pool attendant, so when someone decided to smoke at the edge of the pool — in the kids area — nobody cared enough to stop them. Totally unacceptable for a family hotel. Bicycles were dirty, poorly maintained, and tires were half-flat. If you offer a facility, maintain it properly. The basement parking smelled absolutely terrible, like a mix of garbage and sewage. The kind of smell that makes you want to hold your breath while walking. And the worst part: the shredded chicken (ayam suwir) in the chicken porridge was spoiled. The taste and smell were off — clearly not fresh. Serving expired or spoiled food is something I can’t overlook and is a serious issue for a hotel. Mercure has potential — friendly staff, good location, and decent family facilities — but the lack of attention to basic maintenance, hygiene, and service execution really ruins the experience. Fix the fundamentals before offering “extras.”
