"We (couple with 1yr old daughter) looked for a place for a night on miyajima, according to all of the recommendations we heard. Livemax resort was one of the only ones left, so we booked with-ought much expectations. The place was amazing. From the start you can see it’s very high standard. Sparkling clean, big comfortable rooms, wonderful staff and good location. What more can you ask? Good facilities (onsen looked great but we didn’t try, the private (with extra pay option) sounded great. We almost skipped breakfast because of the horrible reviews we read, but eventually tried it - it was one of the best breakfast meals we had in japan. It’s true - the prices aren’t cheap, but we felt like we got much more than we expected. Can’t understand the mediocre reviews, the place is a 9+. Oh yes - we accidentally booked a triple room instead of a double + baby, so they corrected us and gave us a refund. Thanks :)"

"Hotel is great to escape to. Feels like a minimalist home with warm, cosy vibe. Tasteful real wood furniture and aesthetics. Onsen has waterproof tatami floor and special stone tiles. No night view out across the bay due to steam. Best to try onsen during sunset. Excellent buffet breakfast and dinner using local ingredients. But Miyajima is a victim of its own success. Local and foreign tourists rampage during the day. Much shameful, intrusive behaviour from foreign tourists on the shrine grounds. Chatty local teens on school tours fill most of the daylight hours. Good that there is little vehicular traffic. Best to stay over couple of nights to catch the tides and moonlight for memorable Itsukushima shrine and Torii views. Skip the Momijidani Park walk. Tourist herds have trampled the path into a sodden wasteland."

"We had a room with private bath for 3. It was very cozy, clean and we enjoyed the sitting area by the balcony where we could watch the sunset and the loads of tourists snapping photos of the shrine during its low tide. It is quiet although it is located in a rather busy location with lots of good eateries within a very short walk. Please check with the friendly staff where to eat the Ramee (#7 on their map for restaurants). It is REALLY the best bowl we have eaten since we arrived Japan 20 days ago. Not salty like most but full of flavour! If you enjoy hiking, please hike to its mountain top, the sunset scene is far more worth than taking photos of the shrine in its low tide. There are 3 trails to get up and down. We started with the longest trail and came down by the mid trail. 3 hours but was already pitch dark at 6pm. So do plan earlier as we started off late. Will surely return to Sakuraya on our next visit to enjoy its communal hot bathroom! "

"Memorable and enjoyable, I would certainly recommend. It’s a traditional Japanese experience that was one of the highlights from our trip (especially the dinner). It is a little dated but that just adds to its charm. The staff were wonderful. Our only complaint was the breakfast (we seemed to have chosen the later breakfast sitting at 8:30am) and some items were no longer available. They did their best overcome this, but it wasn’t cheap to stay here so this needs to be improved. Try a late-night visit to the Onsen where you can get the outdoor pool to yourself. Thank you IWASO for a wonderful stay. "
