Where to stay in Hakone
Hakone hotels & accommodations

Hakone Kowakien Tenyu met my expectation in every way. We are a family of 4 and have booked 2 rooms for our stay. Our flight to Tokyo was delayed by 2 days due to Typhoon so we didn't have time to enjoy Hakone before our hotel checkin. We had a day tour in Tokyo instead and was dropped off to the hotel by our driver at 7:00pm. Due to our change in plan, we had to c...

We were recommended by our friends to stay in this hotel in Hakone, and it turns out it’s worthy! Especially the dinner and breakfast, honestly it’s the most delicious and delicate one I’ve ever had in Japan. The onsen was great, you could really see the mountains in your room. Awesome stay in general.

We never give reviews for hotels which we stay at. However, I thought I would do justice to The Prince Hakone Hotel by writing a short review on it. We arrived at the hotel on one misty night, and sighted the hotel from afar. It looked magical, sitting in all that mist. Upon checking in, we went to the outdoor onsen, which was simply rejuvenating. Not to mention...

The hotel staffs are friendly. Breakfast restaurant environment and service is good. But Breakfast choice is limited - either japanese or American breakfast. Hotel room is big and comfy. There is Onsen available in the hotel and free for guest. Very near to the bus stop (about 1 min walk only) where you can ride on the bus to most of the Hakone Tourist spots using Hak...

the staff can speak English. very helpful, when we took photos on the foot onsen area, one of the staff rush out from lobby and help us to take few photos. very helpful. the food is extremely good, far much over my expectation. the two main courses are good and the services are very nice. anyway, it is lucky for me to choose this hotel in Hakone area. Thanks.

We stayed at Hakone Suimeiso in early December 2016. It was our second time to Hakone and we had fond memories of our last stay as we had stayed Hakone Yumoto Hotel and we enjoyed it. It is not difficult to find the hotel as it is about 5mins walk from the Hakone-Yumoto Station. The staff are very friendly and welcome you with traditional Japanese hospitality. We sta...

We stayed one night at Hakone Hotel. Location is very close to the busstop (to Moto-Hakone,....,... and finally Odawara) and Hakone-Machi Pier (Hakone Sightseeing Ships from Togendai). Staff is very friendly. We stayed at twin room.Facilities are very good and rooms are comfortable(at front deck, we requested lake view room). Two ladies who were at front desk can sp...

Even though the price is not low when comparing with other hotels in Hakone area, but Hakone airu is the one that the price is lower then what it worths ! Strongly recommended ! Staffs are very very nice and the service provided is absolutely perfect ! Food is great and pretty ! If there is a chance for me to go to Hakone one more time, this hotel probably will be on m...

We booked two of the private onsen rooms - one for my parents and one for my husband and I - since we weren’t sure we could brave the public onsen. We can’t rave enough about this place. Great traditional ryokan experience, amazing dinner and breakfast, relaxing onsens, the sweetest staff, and conveniently close to the Hakone Yumoto station. Each room’s layout was co...

Is a good experience to stay at this hot spring bath hotel in Hakone. The location was great just few steps walk from the Gora station. The hotel facilities was great too and we all have enjoy the services provide from the hotel like breakfast, dinner, snack, bathing and etc.

Room has a private onsen & interior uses a lot of wooden structure infusing nice wood smell. Advance booking is recommended and essential. Agoda can offer over 50% discount which includes decent Japanese breakfast and dinner. Famous Little Prince museum and Venetian Glass museum is nearby as well as well known Pampas grass field. Take bus route T from Hakone Yumoto ...

We stay here when there is heavy mist, so can't really appreciate the surrounding scenery. This hotel is much expensive than other hotel in hakone area with similar facilities. The winning point is the scenery so do come in right season. Dinner is great but expensive as not included in the room price. Great service, love the breakfast too which is not buffet but proper...

If you are looking for a true onsen ryokan experience, this is the right place. We booked the room with breakfast and dinner provided, japanese cuisine includes some raw fish. You can also book the private onsen or use the public onsen which is open 24 hours. Please do respect the property and the owners, lower down your volume. Get the Hakone 2 or 3 days pass if you w...

Spent one night in this hotel during my visit to Hakone and Gotemba. Just one bus ride from Hakone Yumoto train station. Hotel is located alongside the main road in Hakone, very near to bus stop in front of Shinanoki Highland Hotel. Room is quite spacious for a couple. We really loved the kotatsu (Japanese table with electric heater) that kept us warm in early spring....

for a first-timer to hakone, hotel okada is an excellent choice for it is conveniently located near to hakone yumoto stn & has a shuttle bus (yen100) that runs between the stn to the hotel. even if you miss the last shuttle run (at 6pm), you still can walk to the hotel (10-15mins walk) and it is quite a pleasant and cooling walk for me. okada spotted a nice location b...

This was an excellent place. The baths are lovely and clean. There are two private baths you can book half hour timeslots, and gender-separated public baths that are open for you to visit whenever. Service was excellent; most of the staff speak only Japanese but with Google Translate and lots of gestures, we got on just fine. Some of the lobby staff speak English so y...

Beautiful view of surrounding forest in our deluxe room with private hot spring bath. Authentic Japanese meals were artfully prepared, fresh and delicious. The staff was amazing and we felt like VIPs throughout our stay. My husband and I both had massages at the spa and they were excellent. Tipping is not customary in Japan, but this staff deserved tips more than an...

I had a blissful stay at Ryenken Seiko, the wonderful lady at the information desk at the station was so helpful and was able to guide us to the hotel immediately after mentioning the name of our hotel with no problems at all, as we made our way to the hotel we got a glimpse of the Sunkon Renkon which was amaizing, a must see in Hakone! Hotel staff were great as were t...

From the Hakone-Yumoto Station, you can use the overpass bridge to cross the street. There is a Tourist information office there. In front of the tourist info office is a bus stop for min-bus A, B & C. Bus A is going to Hotel Tenseien and will cost 100 yen per person (as of May 2016) and will take about 15 min., mostly because of the traffic because the streets are ver...

This is one of the hotels in Hakone area that offers single room, but I actually got a room with two beds. The room is actually pretty roomy for Japan; it even has a sofa chair and desk area. The service is great, I deposit my luggage at front desk before checkin time, when I came back a front desk staff walked me to my room with luggage already inside. Right across th...

We stayed during a 3-day Japanese holiday. Hakone itself was really packed, so I suggest looking up holidays before booking. There were a good number of English speakers here in case you need. We enjoyed the view and our private bath from our room. Room was definitely big compared to Tokyo. The bed was low and not as thick. I like abit of firm, but my partner doe...

Upgraded our room to the japanese room with private onsen. We stayed here only one night but used the onsen three times. The dinner was a huge buffet of japanese food: beef, sushi, tempura, salad, desserts and everything in between. The staff made our sleeping futons while we were out to dinner. The garden was full of roses and other flowers. Even though the wearher ...

Let me tell you that I was a bit apprehensive about this hotel because it had no reviews and because we got it at such a great rate - similar to what we'd pay for a 3-star hotel in the U.S. I honestly expected to be told that that price we paid was per person rather than per room and that we owed them three times as much as we had prepaid. I was also nervous becau...

When my husband told me that he booked a 2-star hotel, I have to say I was a reticent. However, when we arrived, I was pleasantly surprised! The staff was friendly and helpful and kept our luggage after check-out which was greatly appreciated! They provided us with a map and told us about the restaurant hours etc. Although, we did not drive, this location has many p...

Big ryokan-style hotel surrounded by nature (it’s next to a golf course). The room is a good size, living area by the window looking out to the green of the golf course, another living area inside where the beds will be made for you at night and with separate bathroom and toilet. All rooms are provided with yukata which we worn thoughout our stay. Onsen was excellent, ...

Simply put . . . Loved it! Being our first time traveling to Hakone and bringing a baby along, we were expecting a nightmare traveling by public transportation to Hakone. But instead, it wasn't so bad at all. What made our stay Hakone Pax Yoshino even better was that the front desk service was more than expected. Upon arrival I had requested that if it was possible...

We booked a Japanese style room, which include dinner and breakfast. The location was great, just an easy 10 min walk from Hakone-Yumoto station, and 5 mins walk to the bus stop. The staffs are very friendly and we have no problem communicating with them despite we don't speak Japanese. Room is clean, have access to wifi and we sleep on traditional tatami mats. The pil...

Kajikaso was a quite aged hotel full of history. Located in Hakone, which was featured in Hachiko movie, the hotel was located in a serene and surrounded by picturesque mountain and sceneries. Highlight of this hotel was the caretaker lady, which will see your every needs, and also the onsen, which best enjoyed outdoor. And then when you entered the room after enjoying...
Cheap places to stay in Hakone

Maybe I had my expectations too high, coming from another hostel in tokyo. It's definitely not the place to stay long term and I'm only glad I was there for one night. The place is clean and simple but very very small. Staff seem to be foreigners and do not seem like they're there to help. The toilets can be shared by both males and females which felt a bit strange to ...

I travelled solo to Hakone and stayed here for 2 nights. It was really relaxing, super clean, I love the indoor hot bath. The only meh part was it's a bit far from the convenient store and the restaurants around are on the expensive side for me.. but the food that the owner makes are really good! Would stay here again if I'm ever in Hakone

The staffs were SUPER friendly and nice. This bought me a smile and really make me feel I was at home. Lodging in Hakone was not cheap and for the price. This was really value for money. There was even a 50% discount for one of the onsen bathroom nearby if you bought the ticket from the guesthouse. Room was very narrow as expected but it was not really a problem. Ther...

My friend and I travelled to Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto before arriving at Hakone Tent, and it was the best part of our trip. Even with our heavy luggages, getting to the inn from Gora station was easy. Gora is the best place to stay in Hakone as it is the terminal for the tram to see Mt Fuji, and a terminal for all major buses. The interior of the inn touts a distinct hi...

K's House Hakone is the place to stay when in Hakone. This has been our home for our part 2 visits in Hakone. I can't recommend this place enough. This is where you should stay. Friendly & amazing staff, nice accommodations, an onsen both indoor & outdoor for all the guests. The best thing about this place are the people you meet while hanging out the common area or th...

The host was very accommodating. You can leave your luggage before your check in time and also after your check out time. She also recommended a very nice and budget friendly onsen, about 20 meters away from the hotel. They have free coffee and green tea. She also cooks a delicious vegetable curry. It's also walking distance from both the Miyanoshita train and bus stat...

Very near to Kami-Koen cable car station. The host is a nice lady that accommodated what we needed, in simple english is good enough. Nice onsen, nice room, feel very homey and quiet. If you go to find the ryokan perhaps its abit hard due to steep road uphill, but other than that all good. We really like it here and we will be back again :)

Our stay in Hotel Florence was above expectation! The location is great and easy to find, just a few minutes away from the station and a Daiso store, but sadly no convenience stores nearby, that we know of. It's a good place to set up base if you want to explore Hakone and beyond. The room itself is beautiful and spacious, it was always a delight waking up in it , you ...

Hotel is around 5-10min walking distance from Odawara train station. Room is very big but there is no internet. Hotel might be difficult to find. So best to do a search and googlemap first and just remember the hotel is just opposite 7-11. Hotel is near the odawara castle too There are a few restaurants near odawara station which close very late. If you have a JRPas...

I very much enjoyed staying at Moto-Hakone Guest House. The innkeeper spoke excellent English and gave me great sightseeing recommendations based on my interests. The room was comfortable and she explains the futon and robe for travelers who may not be familiar with Japanese customs. Only negative thing I noticed was that there was no air conditioning, which wasn't a p...

We had a wonderful stay at fuji-hakone guesthouse. Location: near and walking distance from senkyoro-mae bus stop via hakone tozan bus T from Odawara or hakone-yumoto. Bus has english and tourist friendly even if you have big luggages. There's restaurant and convenience store near the place as well. Staff: owner can converse in good english. Upon check in she's kind...

Few minuites from the station, free breakfast has limited choices but its complete. Room was bigger than i expected for a japanese hotel. Very near odawara castle. Lots of dinning option around the hotel. Good base for hakone and gotemba tour using hakone free pass, new and cheaper alternative for the hotels in hakone yumoto

Simple ryokan with basic amenities provided. Don’t expected much from this hotel with this value as it is a very simple hotel. Super clean and tidy, however location is quite hard to get to. Best is to travel with the Hakone Free Pass and minimum luggage because the ryokan is only accessible via the local bus (and you will travel a lot with the buses) and quite a walk ...

I've stayed here five times now, and each time the experience is wonderful. The rooms are designed for solo travelers, so stay at the larger hotel across the street (same ownership, onsen, and management) if you're traveling with a partner and want to share a room. However, the Posada's rooms are cozy (but with a desk and workspace more than sufficient for a business ...

Staff was very kind and helpful. The room was fairly clean too. There was a large onsen there, to my favour. However, we had to take a bus to the Hakone hotel, then a bus from there to our destination. In other words, we have no access to a direct bus from the hotel. In a nutshell, I think everything was very worth the trip and I would definitely wish to go there again...

From first glance, the building may not seem like your typical fanciful ryokans. But the moment when one steps inside the ryokan, one is immediately greeted with warmth from the ryokan's owner. Indeed, my stay at this ryokan has been made memorable and super enjoyable, all thanks to the owner's exceptional hospitality. His English may not be good but don't let that o...

The room is exactly what we needed for overnight stay - cozy, clean, complete with needed items, and best of all, friendly and polite staff who were super helpful. We also loved the nice guide paper they prepared for going around Hakone. An added bonus is the Italian restaurant below, also with friendly staff and great pizza!

We enjoyed our stay at Hakone Mori No Seseragi. The hotel was great The staff was wonderful excellent food dinner and breakfast and the hot springs baths (and our in room private hotspring ) was heaven. The hotel is a little far from the station and is up hill. Gora is not a child / pram / luggage friendly station but the hotel does have a courtesy bus which we only...

It took me some time to choose a Hakone hotel until I decided to stay here. This was my brother and I's first time in Hakone. Overall it was a good stay. It was a superb experience and relaxing for our honeymoon, 4 days in tokyo was tiring, we arrived in the afternoon, the staff makes us welcome even more when they asked about our passport, our trip, they took of our sandals, put them on a desginated drawer with our name in it, felt really special, one host one guest experience, they lead us to the rooms and facilities ...

The General Manager was extremely accommodating and helpful. The dinner and breakfast is amazing (so many courses) quite focused on seafood and the view onto the garden amazing also. Baths are lovely, splurge if you want a private bath. The location is great 5 minutes from the train station. I would say leave enough time to get there as it is out of the way (slightly...

Excellent traditional breakfast and dinner included. My Fuji view in room and outside onesen. Spacious room. Wonderful staff. Reserve free shuttle or have luggage transported from Hakone station. Tiny negative: Must take cab to pick up Hakone tour loop transportation.

The hotel is beside the river, and you can have hot spring outdoor facing a beautiful mountain view. Food is really good quality. And services is excellent. Not many staff can speak English but still can provide a good service. For transportation, you can go to hotel from Hakone-Yumoto directly by bus, only 4 stop and bus stop just in front of the hotel. You can st...

Beautiful hotel in Hakone. The hotels shuttle picked us up from the closest station and took our bags to the hotel. They also drove us to the museum and convenience store. We were greeted at the hotel with mochi and tea and then brought up to our room. We have a Japanese style room with private Onsen and it was absolutely amazing!! Dinner and breakfast were amazing als...

After a long day doing the Hakone loop - tram, ropeway, cruise on lake Ashi then bus; the last thing I needed was a 20 min uphill hike through small roads by the highway through a forest to get to this hotel. However, the hot spring bath, delicious dinner and Japanese style breakfast at this ryokan made this a very memorable experience. It is difficult to get to this h...

Hakone Retreat was definitely a highlight of my husband’s and my honeymoon trip to Japan. The staff was very attentive and so so helpful! Even though we only stayed one night, they were so kind and hospitable! We stayed in the Tarumi villa, which had a wonderful private onsen. This was perfect to soak in after a long traveling day and before leaving to visit the loca...

Located in the wood this place have such a unique atmosphere. Style of rooms, eating, clothing - all of it makes you feel true Japanese atmosphere. We spend here jast 1 nigh in traditional Japanese room with dinner...

The hotel was a lovely design, traditional but modern. We loved the evening meal and breakfast provided, it was a lovely experience of a range of Japanese food. We enjoyed using the spa facilities and had an amazing room with an open air bath. Would definitely recommend this hotel and come back again!!

It was our first time to Hakone and Ryokan Kyuan did not disappoint us. Conveniently located on the main road up to the peak(its five minutes to the top by car where you can catch an amazing view of Mt Fuji as well as view the volcanic vents that feed the springs). The staff were friendly and helpful and we had no problems communicating with them in English. Though we...

My husband and I spent the last night of our 10-day Japan trip here, and it was the perfect way to relax and decompress after a busy trip of sightseeing! The staff were so attentive to anything we could need, and the dinner was fantastic. The food was clearly prepared with great care, and the menu was creative and delicious. The room was spacious (way more so than an...

The hotel is located near the Lake. In the morning, we walked 5 minutes to the Lake side and jumped on the boat. The route took us to the top attractions in the area. We finished it within a day. We booked the room with private outdoor onsen. It comes with a private small yard where you can sit and enjoy a cup of tea when you dip into the onsen. Highly recommended...

The highlight here is the communal Onsen area on the top floor - great facilities and a range of different baths including jacuzzi and sauna. The clientele is very much Japanese so this hotel doesn't really cater for western tourists and not much English is spoken. This didn't cause us any issues though. We didn't eat in the hotel - dinner and breakfast seemed quite ov...

Hakone Kowakien Tenyu met my expectation in every way. We are a family of 4 and have booked 2 rooms for our stay. Having previously visited Hakone ten years ago, we really wanted to return after a busy few days exploring Tokyo. Hakone Hisui is a beautiful, and relaxing retreat; a place where you can really kick back and restore the equilibrium amongst the peaceful surroundings. Please note, the hotel mainly caters to Japanese clientele, so English is not widely spoken. However,...

I booked and stayed in this property because it's close to Hakone area and hotel provide shuttle bus to Odawara station, in which we can use our Hakone Free Pass to explore Hakone area. What make me surprise, staying in this hotel and using all the facilities actually really enjoyable, and I'm thinking that we should spend more time exploring what this hotel offer to t...

Real reviews for hotels
Stores and most restaurants close too early. Would be nice to have more English translation on the train.
Hakone is a beautiful place with nature where you can see mountains, lakes and maple leaves (Autumn season) their transportation are slow but nice and calming.
There are many hiking trails. We only stayed 2 nights so we only had time to visit Lake Ashi and hike around Hakone Sekicho.
We stayed at a ryokan. My wife and I enjoyed the scenery and the onsen. The cable car ride was interesting, but there really wasn't much to see other than the sulfur pits.
hakone was a peaceful and relaxing place to visit. with numerous attraction and less people, it was a change from the hectic busy days in Tokyo
People are not so friendly specially the bus drivers. The last trip is only up to 9pm. Fares are so expensive.
Local there is super nice, we are lost at the hill side due to two hotels with same names by iPhone 6.
You really must see this place and recommend you stay two nights or at least give yourself time to experience all that it has to offer.
Overall it's a nice hotspring city to visit to let you stay away from the hustle in the city yet enjoy some nice food and buys in some small shops.
It's a famous hot spring area. Very peaceful & comfortable to walk around the forest. It's quite dark at night, but no worry, Japan has the lowest crime rate in the world.
Love this place! There is Gotemba Factory outlet nearby, you can see mt FUji on a clear day and plenty of sightseeing opportunity!
It is easy to drive around and the hotsprings are relaxing. It would be better to spend about 5 days stay so as to see and enjoy more around the place.
